Kospet Prime SE English. Unboxing and review

Kospet Prime SE

The best smartwatch I've tested so far

This time, we're gonna see an impressive smartwatch that, in my opinion, is a real beast: Kospet Prime SE. I must admit that this is not a new smartwatch, because it has been launched some months ago. But I have it for two reasons. The first one is that I've got it as a birthday present for my best friend. And the second one is that I've been wanting to have a watch with full version of Android from this brand in my hands, since time ago.

There could be someone who would think the real beast is the "big brother" of this watch, the Kospet Prime. But the truth is that the only difference between that model and the SE is that instead of 3 GB RAM and 32 GB storage memory, it has 1 GB RAM and 16 GB storage memory, and instead of being built in ceramic it uses something cheaper like metal.

Appart from that, the rest of the hardware is exactly the same. So the Prime SE is still a beast.

And I said I wanted to test a Kospet watch since time ago because, since the first model they launched, the brand has been characterised for wanting to offer very good quality watches with very good performance.

Unboxing

This is also noticeable in the box because, without being something spectacular, we can see its appareance is very well done. There's a cover that we can take off and in the top side shows the Kospet logo and in the bottom side has tech info about the watch: the CPU, the ammount of RAM and storage memory, the screen size and its resolution, the battery, the megapixels for both cameras, the kind of strap and the material used to build the watch.

After taking off the cover and opening the box we find the watch, that we'll see later. And inside the box we have the accessories. In a small box we have the charging base which is round, magnetic and has 4 pins to charge the watch. In another box we find the micro-USB charging cable that we connect to the charging base, and a small screwdriver to take off the screw from the cover of the slot for the SIM card.

The watch also includes a plastic screen protector, for the watch's screen, and three small screws to replace the one from the cover of the SIM card slot, in case it gets lost, worn or damaged.

When we take off the plastic from the sceen, the watch already has a protector, so we don't need to use the one included in the accessories unless the one the watch has gets worn or deteriorated.

Last, we have the user manual, completely in english, that shows the main functions of the watch.

Appareance of the watch

The truth is that this watch is a marvel. It's impressive. And since the first moment we can see that this is something special. The first impression is that this is a very good quality watch, robust and resistant. We can notice it's big, as you can see compared to my Lemfo LEM5 Pro. So this is not a watch that I'd recommend for women.

The screen is HUGE, 1.6 inches, so this is the watch with bigger screen I have used so far. The watch has IP67 certification, which means it's protected against dust and splashing, but it's not submersible.

The apparence of the watch, besides being robust, is very sporty, more oriented to physical exercise or to an urban look than to wearing it, for example, in a business meeting. It has two buttons (the top one is to turn it on and off, and the bottom one is to go back in the menus and sub-menus) and the front and side cameras stands out.

The strap is made of silicon and looks resistant. And what I like very much is that, as we can see, it's replaceable. This is something that was not possible in the watches with full version of Android until some months ago, because these watches used to place the Wifi, GPS and Bluetooth antennas inside the straps.

The problem, as many of you could guess, is that if the strap got broken... goodbye watch. Luckily, this is something that has changed and the manufacturers decided to integrate the antennas in the watch and offer the possibility to change the strap with one that we like more, or to replace it if it gets broken or damaged.

Being so big, the watch uses 24mm straps.

In the back side we can see the contacts for the pins from the charging base, the heart rate sensor, and a screw that allows to take off this small cover to insert the SIM card. This screw is the one we can replace with the screws included in the accessories.

Being a watch with a full version of Android and able to use SIM card, it's like having a phone in our wrist. Furthermore, it offers 4G connectivity, which makes this watch be in the higher ranges of the smartwatches in terms of connectivity.

The watch, working

The battery life, according to Kospet, is 8 hours calling or 72 hours playing music. If the GPS is being continuously used, it's six hours, and with a normal use it's about two or three days. And if we talk about standby, it increases to 168 hours. As for the time it takes to charge the battery, it's two hours. So we can say it's one of the watches with better battery we can find.

The system boot takes more time than in other watches because it has to load the Android system. The first time it turns on, the watch will ask us to select the language. Then, it will ask to select the measuring system (imperial or metric) and input our physical info (weight and height), our gender and the daily steps goal we want to set.

The next screen shows the QR code to download the app that will be used with out phone once it's paired with the watch, and will ask us to turn on Bluetooth on the phone and the watch to pair them. We can skip this step.

Once done this, the initial setup is finished and we have the watch working, showing one of the preinstalled watchfaces it has, which we can change with another by keeping our finger on the screen for some seconds, and then sliding the screen to choose the one we want to use.

If we slide the finger down in the watchface, we can see the connectivity screen showing the status of the Bluetooth connection, and the SIM card, as well as the time, date and battery percent. The next screen shows the shortcuts to turn on and off different functions of the watch like the Wifi, Bluetooth, GPS, Airplane Mode or changing the brightness. In the next screens we can also use the music player and check the weather info.

If we slide up the finger in the watchface, we can check the pedometer info, where we can see the number of steps, the distance we walked, the burnt calories, as well as the activity of the last days.

If we slide the finger to the left, we open the apps menu, where we have the usual apps in an Android system. As we can see, the menu is similar to the one from the Apple watches.

Although I personally think it's something not necessary in a watch and, as I always say, "we're not James Bond", the watch has two cameras. The side camera is 8 MP and it's like the back cameras we have in the mobile phones: we can use it to take pictures or record videos. As for the front camera, it's 2 MP and can be used to facially unlock the watch and to make videocalls.

An important part of this watchess is the app for the physical activity. The Kospet Prime SE has one that allows us to monitor our exercise in different sports like outdoor running, outdoor walking, indoor running, outdoor bike riding, basketball, football, ping-pong, badminton or rope skipping.

And talking about sport activities, I must mention the heart rate monitor. Once open, the app shows our heart rate frequency, continuously, in real time.

The GPS also has a very important role because it's used in some cases in the sport activity monitoring, and because we can use Google Maps and have the GPS info in our wrist. Google Maps works perfectly, and if we input an address to get the indications about how to go, we have all the info in the watch's screen.

The watch offers access to Google Play Store, so we can install any Androiod app. Obviously, many of them are not optimized for this kind of device, but others can be used without any problem. We also have a menu to install apps, where we can install some common use apps like Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp or YouTube. The watch has no problems to use these apps.

We can play videos we have stored in the memory, although I don't recommend it to watch a movie or a TV show episode. The watch can also run many different videogames, but I don't think a watch is the most proper device for that.

The watch also includes many of the standard apps from Android like the contacts, the possibility to make calls, the SMS messages, the calendar, the gallery, the sound and voice recorder, the files manager, the voice search or the calculator.

As we can see, the watch can do almost anything we'd do with a mobile phone. Obviously, the screen size can be less proper for some apps. But for others, having them installed in the watch can be very useful.

And, of course, I must mention it's completely compatible with the watchfaces in Android ClockSkin format that can be downloaded from my blog. So if you have this watch, I'm sure you can find in my blog some watchfaces you'll like.

Conclussions

After this fast review, I think I can say there's nothing that I don't like from this watch. If I'd have to say something, it would be the fact that it's only available in a sporty look. Maybe a negative fact is the thickness, because it's thicker than other watches, but considering the hardware from this device i think this thickness is justified. And even being so thick, the weight of the watch is only 86g.

For all this, I don't think there will be anyone surprised if, in my rating, I give this marvel a rate of 9 out of 10.
