KKTICK Tank T5. Resistance tests

KKTICK Tank T5

This smartwatch is a beast!

This time I'm gonna show you a few tests I've done with the Tank T5 to see if it's as durable as they say. I ran some of the tests before the unboxing, and others afterward. And for now, I simply tell you that... everything OK. But, since a picture is worth a thousand words, let's get into the KKTICK Tank T5 resistance tests.

As I mentioned in the unboxing, this Tank T5 is presented as a rugged smartwatch designed for explorers, athletes, and adventurers who demand the most from their tech devices. In fact, on the watch box itself, we see text that says "Built Tough. Engineered for Adventure". Additionally, on their page about the smartwatch they indicate its resistance to different extreme situations such as very low or very high temperatures, temperature changes, resistance to different fluids or solar radiation, rain, impacts, falls, dust, or salty water. They also show different situations that can put the smartwatch's integrity at risk.

Since I wanted to check it out for myself instead of relying solely on their information or videos, I've done some tests, although I haven't done any of the other tests suggested in your information. So now comes the good part, because we're going to see if this is true.

Resistance tests

I think the first test is more than obvious, and that's the water resistance. This test was very easy, since we just have to bathe with it, swim, put it in a glass filled with water... There are many possibilities for this. So, let's first look at the watch submerged in a container with water. The watch works perfectly, although it's true that if we try to use our finger on the screen while it's submerged, it won't work, or it will work with some problems. Once out of the water, it works the same as always.

Another test I did was getting in a pool for a while with the smartwatch. Actually, I swam in the pool quite a few times with it, and the watch performed perfectly every time. When we take the watch out of the water, it's working properly, and the water hasn't affected this Tank T5 at all.

And another test is under the shower. In this case, the result is the same: the watch hasn't been affected and works correctly.

Not only have I used it under the shower or in the pool, but I've also had it on while washing dishes or washing my hands. There hasn't been any contact between my wrist and the water where this Tank T5 hasn't been present. So, first test, the immersion in water... passed.

Let's go now to the second test, which is more heavy. As you can see in this pictures of a video from the guys at DT No. 1 and KKTICK, after a car drives over the watch, it still works.

(Click to enlarge)(Click to enlarge)(Click to enlarge)

Well, I had to do the same test. Taking advantage of the fact that I was at a friend's house, I asked him to drive over the watch. And not once, but TWICE. One of them was for an Instagram reel, and the second was for my Youtube video. After the car ran over it, the Tank T5 was still working correctly.

Although I must mention that this test did cause "collateral damage" to the smartwatch, because as you can see in the picture, the weight of the car caused some marks and scratches on the base of the watch. This didn't affect the watch's performance at all, and besides the screen, both the charging pins and the sensors that collect health data kept working perfectly. The damage is only aesthetic.

So second test, the car crush... also passed.

The third test can also be considered extreme, and in my case the result was somewhat different from others I've seen. In another promotional video for the Tank T5 the watch was frozen inside a block of ice, and after extracting it, it kept working.

Clearly, this was yet another test I had to do. So I put the smartwatch in a container filled with water, and left it in the freezer overnight to let the water freeze. When I took it out, I had a nice block of ice with the watch trapped inside.

Since I didn't feel like hammering at it,  to extract it, I decided to melt the ice by pouring tap water over it. The good thing about this is that this way I was able to test not only its resistance to freezing, but also to significant temperature changes.

After extracting it, I started to use the watch, but... uh, oh... the screen didn't turn on. This didn't match what I'd seen in the video, and I tried several times without success.

Then I thought of something to try, and that was to turn on the flashlight by holding down the main button, and... bingo. The flashlight turned on, so the watch was working even though the screen didn't show anything.

So I decided to do something else, which was to wait a couple of minutes for the smartwatch to warm up and force it to restart it by holding the secondary button down for 15 to 30 seconds. After releasing the button, the watch restarted and I was able to use it again without any problems.

So we can say that the Tank T5 also survived freezing... but with nuances. And I say "with nuances." because this was the result in MY test, but as you can see in this pictures of a sequence that allowed me to use Lorenzo Carbonera from his YouTube channel (grazie, Lorenzo!), in his case, after extracting the watch from the ice, the screen did turn on.

In both tests, the watch survived, but with different behavior until, in my case, it kept working normally. So the third test, the freezing... also passed.

Another test I wanted to run was the screen's resistance. As they tell us on the official page of the Tank T5, the screen glass is Corning Gorilla Glass, which gives it quite strong resistance. So I had to test it. To do this, I used a knife on the screen, making several passes, and you can see that the glass didn't even flinch. I decided to use a different type of knife, and the result was the same. Not a single mark. I also tried a screwdriver, I also tried a box cutter, and once again the glass remained intact. No marks or scratches on the screen.

So the fourth test, the "screen harassment"... also passed.

Conclusions

It's clear that with this watch they wanted to stand out in terms of the device's durability. And that's normal, since this is a smartwatch designed for users who will be doing sports that in some cases can be classified as extreme, going on adventures, doing outdoor activities like hiking, rafting, climbing... This watch had to be all-terrain, durable, and rugged. And this Tank T5 lives up to those standards.

I've seen rugged smartwatches before, but I hadn't used one, and I have to say that, for example, in the resistance test with the car passing over it, I was pleasantly surprised, as I was with its resistance to freezing. Also, since it's summer and being here in Spain, we've had to endure high temperatures and I haven't seen this smartwatch affected by them. For example, my mobile phone got really hot on some very hot days, but I didn't notice the Tank T5 getting hot at all.

If you want a smartwatch that's functional, tracks the health and sports activities well, is durable, and you don't have to keep remembering to take it off your wrist when you're gonna get inside water, this Tank T5 is definitely one of the best options you can find.

With this, we've salready checked the durability of this smartwatch, so now I just have to spend some time testing its features in depth so I can bring you the full review.
