KKTICK Tank T5. Unboxing and first impressions

KKTICK Tank T5

A smartwatch designed to resist adverse conditions

I've decided to cover the smartwatch we're going to look at this time in three different parts. This one, where we'll see just the unboxing and some very quick and brief first impressions, a second one where you'll see the stress tests I've put it through, and another in where I'll review it in depth.

Before continuing, I want to thank the guys at DT No. 1 and KKTICK for sending me this watch. And why do I mention DT No. 1? Because both brands are related. KKTICK is a brand that belongs to the same company as DT No. 1, and in fact, you can see that on this box of one of their smartwatches that was launched a few years ago, this brand already appeared.

By comparison, we can say that just as Poco and Redmi phones belong to the Xiaomi ecosystem, KKTICK belongs to the DT No. 1 ecosystem. On its Instagram profile, KKTICK describes itself as an adventure-oriented brand designed for explorers, athletes, and adventurers who demand more from their wearable technology.

Unboxing

The box, in my opinion, is very well designed, and it's clear they want to give a sense of quality and style. At the top we see an image of the watch, the brand and model, the text "SPORT," and some icons and text with some of the features such as the AMOLED screen, the offline maps, the GPS positioning, the water resistance and the 860 mAh battery.

On one side we see the KKTICK logo, and on another side we find more icons about its features: the water protection again, the compatibility with TWS headphones, the Bluetooth calling, the multiple sports modes, the Airoha GPS system, and the 4 GB of storage memory. There's another side that shows an image of the right side of the watch and other features like the rugged design or the military grade, a term applied to products that are durable and resistant.

And last, at the bottom we have a box showing the brand and model, some texts with recommendations about the battery and the usual warning that this is not a medical device, and the QR code and the WearJoy app icon. Yes, this Tank T5 works paired with the app WearJoy, although my contact at DT No. 1 told me it can work with both WearJoy and the app WearPro which we've seen before. I'll use it with WearJoy to see how this app works.

I must say I really liked this design. I think it has a very sporty style, and the combination of the black color of the box with the white of the text and the color used in the icons looks great and is very eye-catching.

When we open the box, we can see that they've kept this striking style inside as well, since we find a cover that only shows the watch, with the brand, model, and text in a gold color that reflects other colors depending on how the light hits it. This cover has a pattern of diagonal lines that gives it an elegant yet sporty look.

Taking off the first cover, on the right side, we have a box with two of the accessories. The first is the USB charging cable, with a 4-pin magnetic contact that I already tell you that it's exactly the same one we saw on the DT Ultra 2, the DT Watch 10, and the DT Ultra 3. So now I have... 3 or 4 identical charging cables. I don't have to worry about any of them getting broken.

In this box we also find the manual. This manual is like many others, small and with not very extensive information. but what I liked is that they've moved away from the typical manuals in english and chinese and, in addition to these languages it's also available in spanish, german, french, italian, and japanese.

And now, removing another two covers we find something that, I have to say, I thought was a really nice touch: It includes not one, but two additional straps. Do you remember that I've said before that I always think it's a good idea to include two straps for a watch, so we can switch between them and give it a different look or style? Well, if it includes three in total, even better. One of them is made of silicone, combining orange and black colors, and the other one I personally love it, as it's a black, metallic, stainless steel strap. I think this one is spectacular and the best of the three, and I'm sure I'll be using it a lot with this watch.

But the guys at DT No. 1 and KKTICK didn't think to also include a tool to remove the links from this strap if it doesn't fit properly and we need to make it shorter. It would have been a nice touch to add to the inclusion of this wonderful strap.

Apariencia del reloj

Let's now see the smartwatch! I give you my opinion straight away: I think it's amazing, and very beautiful. It has a design that's both sporty and elegant, and I think it will match any outfit we wear, and for any occasion.

It has a 1.43-inch round display with time markings on the edge for a 24-hour dial. Although I think this detail is more aesthetic than functional, since I haven't seen any analog watchface for this watch that uses a 24-hour format. I think if they were looking to give the border an aesthetic touch, they could have put anything else.

In general, it seems that they wanted to be inspired in some way by the design of the Garmin Fenix, but without making an exact copy.

On the right side, we have two buttons, and the main one is also a rotating crown, which will be very useful in different aspects of using the watch. Also, between the two buttons we have a metal piece with the text GPS, in a metallic blue color that I think looks really cool. This metallic blue color is also seen in a thin line on the secondary button.

On the left side it seems there's nothing, but if we turn the smartwatch a little, we'll notice some holes. Let's see it next, at the base of the watch.

Looking at the base, we see those holes I mentioned. These holes are to listen the sound coming from the speaker. On the opposite side, we see another small hole, which I assume is the microphone. And finally, we have the usual contacts for the pins of the charging cable and the sensors for measuring health-related data.

(Click to enlarge)(Click to enlarge)(Click to enlarge)

The watch bezel is made of metal, as is the base. I don't know if it's aluminum or another type of alloy, but it's clear they wanted to make a smartwatch with a certain degree of durability. And being a device designed to withstand water or shocks, heavy weight, and other "extreme" conditions, having this metal in certain parts of the watch's body definitely helps meet expectations.

What might make us doubt its durability is that, as we can see, on the sides of the watch, we can see that certain parts are made of plastic. But, believe me, I've seen that it still resisted, and you'll see it in my video about stress tests.

As already made clear by the two additional straps included, the straps are replaceable. On this smartwatch, these are 24-millimeter straps. And as I always say, on websites like Amazon or Aliexpress you can find straps in different colors and styles, and sometimes at very cheap prices.

(Click to enlarge)(Click to enlarge)(Click to enlarge)(Click to enlarge)

I usually show how a smartwatch looks with other straps I have, but I think the three included are more than enough for you to see how good the watch looks in other colors and styles.

(Click to enlarge)(Click to enlarge)(Click to enlarge)

The CPU in this watch is the ATS3085S chip from Actions Technology, a low-power smartwatch chip that we already saw in my review of the DT Watch 10 from DT No. 1 and that is also integrated into its DT Watch X.

The watch has IP69K protection. This certification indicates the highest level of protection against the ingress of dust and water into electronic devices and industrial equipment, and gives the device resistance to high-pressure water jets, immersion which in this case is up to 3 bars (or what is the same as 3 ATM or 30 meters depth), and very high and very low temperatures. So this time I'm telling you YES, you can get in the water with him, without fear.

First impressions

I must say that, from the start, I was pleasantly surprised by this smartwatch. When using it, its performance feels smooth, and the screen works very well. Its brightness and colors look great, and it has a ton of options to use. The health data tracking is very well done, and as for sports we have over 100 sports activities to track our workouts.

Being a smartwatch designed for outdoor activities, adventure, hiking, etc, I found it very interesting that it includes a flashlight. We've seen this in other "rugged" smartwatches, and I assumed they'd include it in this Tank T5 as well.

As for the menu, it has a lot of options. Honestly, I think there are quite a few more than on other smartwatches I've reviewed. We can say the watch is well-equipped in terms of software.

(Click to enlarge)(Click to enlarge)(Click to enlarge)(Click to enlarge)

I need to test all of its features in depth, because for now I've only prepared this unboxing and the stress tests so far, so I'll be using it for a while before I can prepare a full review for you.

And what about durability? I've run several tests with satisfactory results, which you'll see soon. It really surprised me, and I have no doubt that this is an all-terrain smartwatch designed to withstand demanding usage conditions.

You already know that I usually give a rating to the smartwatches I review, but not this time. Or better said, not yet, because I'll give it after the stress tests and the full review.
